This might sound cliché and like the most common answer for someone who doesn't care enough to criticize, but I honestly liked everything we did in this class. Even though I liked everything we did I do think stuff could have been done faster, sometimes it was the class slaking off and the other times it was the various websites we used not working or just breaking. Another thing is that I wish we could have either spent more time in the studio or have gone to the studio a second time because it feels like we barely did anything in there. On the other hand I think we spent just a little too much time on the six word stories, it just felt like it took a long time for everyone to finish. Overall this class was a lot of fun and I got to learn about what it takes to create a good story and that a good story can come from anywhere. I would highly recommend this class to anyone even a little bit interested in this field.

This blog is kind of a continuation of the last one because the topic is again the interview project, so I guess you could call this an update. So I've pretty much finished the project and I have all of the B roll I need. Collin and I stayed after school and got some shots of him warming up and running outside of the school. We tried to cover all of the shots we needed, but ended up shooting out of order which is a small problem but one that is easily fixed. During this project the hardest thing to do was actually getting someone to interview that had an interesting hobby, talent, sport, or whatever they did that would allow us to get some b roll. Overall it was a fun experience learning about Collin and what it takes to make an interview great.
For this project I interview Collin Clark who was also my partner during this unit. The interview we used was originally a test for audio and framing so we could get a handle on it. We used this footage because we had scheduling conflicts with the people we planned to interview. I even did a solo interview with someone but we ended up not using the footage because I had framed them wrong. This unit taught me important things about conducting an interview like Framing, lighting, importance of good audio, body language, and how to build on a conversation.
My six word story is about how books are not as useful as they used to be, because of the technology we have today. I chose this story because I thought of this idea and couldn't think of anything better that I could actually do. I had a variety of shots that I used to make this video, which includes (in order) medium shot, pov, low angle, medium shot, extreme close up, close up. I used these shots to show how books can just complicate things while you can pretty much get exactly what you want when you use the internet. The final product is pretty much what I wanted from the start with the overall actions and pacing being the same, but there where a few changes like the setting and really just two of the shots. At first I wanted it to be in a library with a big bookshelf in front of me but the school library didn't have the one that I wanted so I changed up the shots a little.
Six word stories are, can be really miss leading because some can have really good or thought provoking messages and while others are just bad to mediocre jokes. I think this because some of them that are trying to be sad or depressing with deeper meanings and others are just jokes. For example there is something like "Smoking my very last cigarette. Again." which is obviously saying how cigarettes are very addictive and even when people say that they are going to stop they never can. Then there are one's like this "'Lie to me, baby.' - Pinocchios girlfriend." which to me invoke more of the reaction "what did I just read?" and not "haha I get it." If you want to go read some six word stories than you can go to the website I went to which was www.sixwordstories.net/page/7/ so have fun with that.
This Week we through the steps on how to properly use a video camera and the basics on how to edit. The first thing he went through was what we needed for the camera, and the steps leading up to turning the camera on. After that he went through each function of the camera like how to zoom, record, white balance, and focus the camera. After we were pretty comfortable with the cameras we went with a partner and got six different shots including but not limited to wide, medium, close up, and re-establish wide. Once we had all of our shots we went into Final Cut Pro and were taught how to edit them. We first edited one of the shots and made it into a mess of effects and transitions, after that we took all of our six shots and combined them either into a longer messy clip or a longer clip with a somewhat coherent story.
For the past few class periods we have been rotating throughout the studio doing the different jobs, allowing us to experience what each one was like. Personally I liked the jobs that required me to get involved like director, floor director, and anchor. For the other jobs that required me to just sit/stand there and press a button every now and then wasn't the highlight of my experience with this activity. Out of all of the jobs the hardest, for me at-least was the TelePrompTer, having to keep the pace for the anchors was harder than it looks. Overall this was a fun activity that we did and it showed me what I would want to do if we ever do this again. Me as an Anchor
Picture of my IAm Video video on SchoolTube with the grammatically incorrect description. Better late than never as they always say. I made a little trailer about 2 months ago (this was posted in November btw) that takes snippets of my life and shows it to you guys/gals/other(s), so here ya go. It's just a little montage showing some of the things that I like to do with friends and family. Doing this was pretty fun because I was able to go back through old photos and look at all of the dumb things I used to to. The hardest part of this project was finding good pictures of myself, which became harder to find the further I went back. Overall it was a fun experience and I would like to do something else like this.

AuthorAnother word for this part of the site Journal, which is what I would rather call it, but rules are rules and I need the credit. So here you can see what I've been doing in terms of this website. Archives
